A comprehensive checklist of a Housekeeper’s duties
7 July 2015Top 7 magazines that will improve your home and lifestyle
22 July 2015The advert read “Housekeeper sought for a large family home in Norfolk. We are looking for someone with previous housekeeping experience, ideally within a large private house, and preferably within a family environment with dogs.” It had been placed by or at least on behalf of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and so the successful applicant would not only find themselves living with royalty, they’d be able to call Anmer Hall their country home, and enjoy the charms of an English Cocker Spaniel called Lupo.
Not that the advert actually mentioned who had placed it, of course. It was anonymous and hidden among so many others, which just goes to show that when you apply to be a live-in Housekeeper you can’t always be exactly sure what you’re going to get. You might find yourself with the opportunity to work for a couple of barristers or doctors, journalists or bankers, large or small families, or single pensioners. Or you might find yourself working for one of the most famous couples on the planet.
Of course, Housekeeping can be rewarding work no matter who your employer is and when you live-in you’re guaranteed to be able to enjoy a number of excellent benefits. Sure, there’s always work to do and a busy household to maintain, plenty of cleaning, washing, tidying and cooking, but there’s also being able to get to know a family and share their aspects of their lives and without having to worry about paying for rent, bills, or food.
In certain cases Housekeepers have even been taken on holiday by their employers and so have been able to enjoy elements of a luxury lifestyle without having to deal with the often extreme responsibilities. Restaurateur, philanthropist, author, actress, and star of Real Housewives of Beverley Hills Lisa Vanderpump, for extreme example, has forged such a close and friendly relationship with her Housekeeper that she is known to pass on to her designer clothing while they both live together in one of the United States most glamorous locations. Not that such generosity should ever be expected, but it certainly does happen.
With greater experience of the job comes the chance to work in even more interesting and exotic places. If managing a large family home becomes second nature and lacks challenge, for another example, you could move your career onward and upward and even work as an Executive Housekeeper on a six star luxury yacht working four months on, two months off, sailing the world, and earning (as one recent genuine placement explains) over $50,000 tax free.
To ensure that you get a live-in Housekeeping in London placement that really suits your skills and abilities you should sign-up to a specialist services agency like SupaCare. We can’t guarantee that you’ll be working for royalty or a celebrity but will we most definitely be able to find you just the right employer in just the right location.
